2012 Coffee Break Conference – General Call for Papers

The Organizing Committee of the Coffee Break Conference announces that the CBC 3 will be held at the University of Cagliari (Sardinia) from 14th to 16th June 2012. Several panels, workshops and round tables are being proposed for this occasion. The general topic of the CBC 3, as always, concerns the Asiatic studies from every point of view and within every framework and approach. Every panel enlisted for CBC 3 will provide a Call for Papers of its own. However, each participant of the CBC 3 should hold in mind some general assumptions listed below.
  • The general idea behind the CBC project is the result of a larger reflection on the common sensical statement that "the most interesting parts of a conference are the coffee breaks". One yawns or falls asleep while most papers are read — apart from a couple of them and one's own one. By contrast, one often takes part of challenging and fascinating debates while sipping at a cup of tee or coffee. Often, the same papers sound thought-provoking and insightful during the breaks, and extremely boring while they are actually read.
  • Therefore, what a "coffee break conference" aims at is to leave behind the rigidity and formality of the official accademic and scholarly meetings and to favour an open-minded exchange of ideas, suggestions, discussions and criticisms, within the spirit of a friendly dialogue held in an informal atmosphear.
  • The CBC audience is necessarily mixed, since the participants of each panel are invited to attend to all the other panels as well, in order to learn some methodology or general approach from other scientific fields. Therefore, the presentations should be possibly understandable by a larger scholarly audience.
  • The presentations must not only concern the participant's own reasearch but should also describe the state of art in the field of research, the methodology adopted, the importance of the reached results in a multidisciplinary approach, and, eventually, some unsolved questions.
  • A time of ca. 50 minutes (including a discussion of up to 20') is allotted to each participant (but may slightly change, depending on the number of accepted papers).
  • For the application it is necessary to provide a long abstract (ca. 2000 words). The scientific committee will select the papers eligible for the CBC 3. Deadlines and other details are separately provided in the specific Calls for papers of each enlisted panel.
  • In case of acceptance, since CBC is a cooperative project, each author is kindly invited to collaborate with the organizers while preparing the draft.
  • A book of abstracts will be made available to all the participants and the attenders of the conference.
  • Young researchers (post-graduate, PhD students or post-PhD) are more than welcome.
  • Please note also that the conference aims at creating a "coffee break" atmosphere. Consequently, reading a paper would be out of place. Extempore speeches, lively discussions, open perspectives and thought-provoking approaches are our favorites!
  • The working language is English.
